Shalom!

The Song of Moshe. It's one chapter long, and it is our entire Torah portion this week. In fact, there are two major songs of the Torah, both of which are referred to as "Songs of Moshe":

Shemot/Exodus 15:1 Then Moshe and the children of Israel sang this song to YHWH, and spoke, saying: "I will sing to YHWH, For He has triumphed gloriously! The horse and its rider He has thrown into the sea!

Devarim/Deuteronomy 31:30 Then Moshe spoke in the hearing of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song until they were ended: 32:1 "Give ear, O heavens, and I will speak; And hear, O earth, the words of my mouth.

When we get to the book of Revelation, we read again of the Song of Moshe:

Revelation 15:1 Then I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvelous: seven angels having the seven last plagues, for in them the wrath of Elohim is complete. 2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of Yah. 3 They sing the Song of Moshe, the servant of Yah, and the Song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Adonai Elohim Tzva'ot! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!

This reference in Revelation to the Song of Moshe raises an interesting question, "which song of Moshe are they singing?" We can take a look at both and see what you think. Perhaps we will come up with a surprising conclusion.

First to consider, is that the songs are recorded in the Torah, differently in their format. In Shemot, the Torah scrolls lay out the song like a brick wall. Such a reminder that YHWH has the power to pile up the water like a solid wall.

Observations about the first song of Moshe in Shemot:
  • Sung by the first generation
  • The Israelites have just crossed a sea
  • YHWH uses water to crush and destroy the enemy
  • A song of victory over physical enemies
  • Represents a high point in history
  • Sung at beginning of Israel's nationhood
  • Beginning of national prayer...appropriate relationship with YHWH based on thanksgiving
  • Shemot 15:1-10 filled with water and wind, YHWH is lofty and the enemy sinks deeply into the sea
  • The people of Israel are the faithful witnesses
  • Second half of song moves into the future
  • Adversaries will witness YHWH's faithfulness to His covenant
  • The people of Israel will enter into their destiny
  • The relationship emphasized is king/loyal servants
Forty years later the second Song of Moshe is given. The format of the Song in Shemot appears like this - like a path through the wilderness:

Observations about the Song of Moshe in Devarim 32 (Ha'azinu)
  • Taught to the second generation
  • Israelites have spent 40 years crossing a desert
  • YHWH uses the water of His Word to gently nourish the people
  • A call to defeat the spiritual enemies of their hearts
  • Speaks of a low point in their future
  • Addresses Israel's ingratitude and a downward trajectory in the life of the nation
  • YHWH will have vengeance on His adversaries
  • YHWH's reputation, i.e., His Name is linked with that of His people
  • The relationship emphasized - Parent/child of which there is an unbreakable bond
    • The Rock that birthed you
    • He hovers over His children
    • He disciplines His sons and daughter
Ok, so what can we learn from these two songs? We must turn to Him both as a King and as a Parent. But there's a third relationship, one that's even more intimate. Hold that thought for a moment. Consider the "Song of Moshe" is one that is taught "by" Moshe and not "to" Moshe. So with that in mind, consider what is said in Revelation:

Revelation 15:2 And I saw something like a sea of glass mingled with fire, and those who have the victory over the beast, over his image and over his mark and over the number of his name, standing on the sea of glass, having harps of Yah. 3 They sing the song of Moshe, the servant of Yah, and the song of the Lamb, saying: "Great and marvelous are Your works, Adonai Elohim Tzva'ot! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints!

Those singing are those "who have had victory over the beast". Does that not include Yeshua? Does Yeshua also have a song which He will be singing? Perhaps the "Song of the Lamb" is not about Yeshua, but Yeshua's song of "victory" offered to His Father. We know there were times that He did praise the Father:

Luke 10:21 In that hour Yeshua rejoiced in the Spirit and said, "I praise You, Father, Adonai of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and revealed them to babes. Even so, Father, for so it seemed good in Your sight.

Hebrews 2:12 saying: "I will declare Your name to My brethren; In the midst of the assembly I will sing praise to You."

Is the Song of the Lamb in Revelation, Yeshua's victory hymn? Could it be Yeshua's own testimony of what His Father has done? Will the two "songs of Moshe" merge together into one song symbolizing victory over both physical and spiritual enemies? Will then this united "Song of Moshe", together with the "Song of the Lamb" become the anthem of "those who have the victory over the beast"? Will Yeshua sing together with the martyred ones?

Those martyred for the sake of His Name join Yeshua in singing His song because Yeshua, though He died at the hands of the great beast, came back to life due to resurrection power! That's everyone's testimony and thus all songs merge together in great praise! And YHWH's response?

Philippians 2:9 Therefore Yah also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, 10 that at the name of Yeshua every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Yeshua the Messiah is Adonai, to the glory of Yah the Father.

One more thing. We noted that there were two paradigm relationships alluded to through the Songs of Moshe:

  • King/servants (Shemot 15)
  • Father/child (Devarim 32)
When the Lamb joins in with song we see the third relationship:
  • Groom/bride
Revelation goes on to tell us who is with the Lamb:

Revelation 17:14 "These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful."

And that glorious day:

Revelation 19:7 "Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready."

And so we end with many thoughts and still perhaps unanswered questions. It is not my intention to be dogmatic, but to attempt to make connections. The Word of YHWH is living and active and always bringing forth new revelations!

Changing directions, Wednesday evening on the Jewish calendar marks the beginning of Yom Teruah (literally, Day of Blasting, also known as Feast of Trumpets or Rosh Hashana) and the beginning of our Feasts of the 7th Month! Some of you requested resources, so here are some sites. Sorry, I have not read them all, so praying they are helpful for you:

And one more thing. Please consider signing up for a blog from our "brother Judah" who is working hard to reunite the family. Hanoch can be found here - http://www.kolyehuda.com/blog

And one last thing. As we enter into the Feast Days, my heart is so heavy for those who are enduring earthquakes, fires, threat of war, and hurricanes. My own dear friend finds herself huddled in her closet with her little dog in Puerto Rico as a Cat 4 hurricane continues to directly ravage her country. Still, she is hoping to blow her shofar tonight!

So be blessed wherever you are and whatever situation you find yourself in. Our Elohim reigns and He will never leave you nor forsake you!

Chag Sameach and Shabbat Shalom!
