Ask the Scriptures (1-10)

    1) What is sin?
  • 1 John 3:4
“Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness.”

    2) If we love God, what does He want us to do?
  • John 14:15
“If you love me, keep my commandments.”

    3) What is love as defined by Scripture?
  • 2 John 1:6
“And this is love, that we walk after His commandments. This is the commandment, that, as you have heard from the beginning, you should walk in it.”

    4) Who did we receive this commandment from?
  • 2 John 1:4
“I rejoiced greatly that I have found some of your children walking in truth, as we received commandment from the Father.”

    5) Is this commandment new? And, if not, how long have we had it?
  • 2 John 1:5
“And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command, but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.”

    6) What message have we heard from the beginning?
  • 1 John 3:11
“For this is the message that you heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.”

    7) When was the beginning?
  • Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

    8) Has the Word really been from the beginning?
  • John 1:1-5
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

    9) How do we love God and what does loving God really mean?
  • 1 John 5:3
“For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments: and His commandments are not burdensome.”

    10) Really? The Law of God as written by Moses is easy?
  • Deuteronomy 30:9-16
“The LORD (YHWH) will again delight in you and make you prosperous, just as He delighted in your ancestors, if you obey the LORD (YHWH) your God and keep His commands and decrees that are written in this Book of the Law and turn to the LORD (YHWH) your God with all your heart and with all your soul. Now what I am commanding you today is not too difficult for you or beyond your reach. It is not up in heaven, so that you have to ask, “Who will ascend into heaven to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” Nor is it beyond the sea, so that you have to ask, “Who will cross the sea to get it and proclaim it to us so we may obey it?” No, the Word is very near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart so you may obey it. See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the LORD (YHWH) your God, to walk in obedience to Him, and to keep His commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD (YHWH) your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.”
